The United States will impose additional tariffs on imported wood and cabinets starting from October 14.

On September 29 local time, US President Donald Trump announced that a 10% tariff would be imposed on imported softwood lumber and wood, and a 25% tariff would be levied on imported cabinets, bathroom vanities and upholstered wood products. 

The new tariffs will take effect on October 14th, and some of the rates will be further increased on January 1st next year. 

Previously, the US Department of Commerce has launched an investigation into wood and its derivatives (including cabinets and furniture) since March this year.

The announcement further clarifies that starting from January 1, 2026, certain tariffs will be further increased. Among them, the tariff rate for cork products will rise from 25% to 30%, and the rate for complete kitchen and bathroom cabinets will be significantly raised from 25% to 50%. However, countries that have reached security guarantee agreements with the United States will be exempted. 

It is worth noting that this tariff policy implements differentiated treatment for different economies. The tariff rate on British products will not exceed 10%, and the upper limit of the comprehensive tariff rate (including basic tariffs) on products from the European Union and Japan is set at 15%, demonstrating the United States' discriminatory approach in trade policy.
